The record-breaking bull was Yamburgan Everest E102 (P), pictured above. The 25-month-old roan bull, sold to Lyn and John Nitschke of Carlton Poll Shorthorns, Hahndorf, SA, weighed in at 874kg and measured a 124-centimetre square eye muscle area (EMA) with fat scans of 13mm and 10mm on the rump and ribs. “Everest E102 was used heavily as a junior sire last year with some very good calves now on the ground,” Mr Manchee said. Everest was in the top one per cent for gestation length; top five per cent for 400 day weight, carcase weight, EMA, heavy domestic and export maternal indexes; and top 10 per cent for 200 and 600 day weights and SB3 index. The Nitschkes also purchased a second Oscar son for $5,000 to use in their south east breeding herd of over 1,000 females after being extremely pleased with the calves they have on the ground by AI sire Yamburgan Ossie D59 (P). |
